Milestones in the history of Ilmarinen

14.12.1961 Representatives of Pohjola, Sampo, Suomi and Salama meet at a General Shareholders’ Meeting to found a new pension insurance company. Six smaller insurers join the alliance as partner companies. Offices are leased in the residential block at Yrjönkatu 17, Helsinki.

1.3.1962 Teivo Pentikäinen D.Phil. starts as Managing Director.

3.9.1962 The first pension payment is sent to Aarne Lehtonen in Turku.

9.8.1967 The company moves to a brand new office building in Eerikinkatu, Helsinki.

1.8.1977 Juhani Salminen starts as Managing Director.

1.1.1984 Sampo withdraws from Ilmarinen ownership and takes with it one quarter of the insurance portfolio. Ilmarinen becomes a subsidiary of Pohjola.

1.1.1991 Kari Puro D.Med.Sc. starts as President and CEO.

24.7.1998 A change in the form of the company emphasizing corporate independence is sealed with the registration of Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company in the trade register.

17.6.2002 Ilmarinen moves to a new office at Porkkalankatu 1, Helsinki.

12.9.2005 Ilmarinen, Suomi Group and OKOBANK Group agree on large-scale cooperation and ownership arrangements concerning Pohjola with a view to establishing a strong new domestic group on the Finnish financial market.

1.1.2007 Harri Sailas, B. Sc. (Econ.), starts as Managing Director.
