When pension becomes relevant
You can retire on an old-age pension flexibly based on your birth date. Pension cover can be useful even before your old-age pension in different life situations. When you decide to retire, you have to apply for pension. The easiest way to apply for pension is in our MyPension service. When you receive a positive pension decision, we will pay your pension once a month.

Earnings-related pension cover is there for you at different life stages.
Approaching retirement age, 60+
You get to enjoy your earnings-related pension at the latest at your old-age pension age. The longer you continue in working life, the larger the old-age pension you receive. You can also choose to draw part of your pension earlier as a partial old-age pension.

As a self-employed person you accrue your pension with YEL insurance
As an entrepreneur you take care of your own pension cover. Self-employed person’s pension insurance (YEL) secures your income in the event of old age, disability or the death of a family provider. YEL also determines the size of the allowances paid by Kela, if you fall ill or take parental leave, for example.

Support for continuing in working life – vocational rehabilitation
Life can put you in situations where an illness or disease impacts your work. There are many ways to help you to continue in your job or return to work after sick leave. Occupational health care services or another health care professional play an important role when you consider alternatives for coping at work and returning to work.

When work ability weakens
If your work ability has declined and rehabilitation does not help, you may be entitled to a disability pension or years-of-service pension.
