ANTI-BRIBERY PRINCIPLES

Ilmarinen condemns bribery in any shape or form. The purpose of Ilmarinen’s anti-bribery principles is to prevent and help detect bribery. The anti-bribery principles are a part of Ilmarinen’s Code of Conduct.

The anti-bribery principles are based on the Business Principles for Countering Bribery and their application guide developed by Transparency International and published by the Finland Chamber of Commerce.

The guidelines apply to all Ilmarinen employees in all circumstances – including situations where anything of value is offered to an Ilmarinen employee as a ‘private person’ while the actual reason is his/her position in the company.

The Board of Directors has approved these principles, and the Board bears the overall responsibility for compliance with these principles at Ilmarinen. All Ilmarinen employees are personally responsible for compliance with these principles.

The operations of an employment pension insurance company include characteristics of both a private and public organisation. Ilmarinen assesses conventionality and reasonableness in a business context from the point of view of a company offering statutory earnings-related pension insurance. Because Ilmarinen also carries out duties as an official administrative authority, the appropriateness of business conventions must be assessed particularly meticulously.

Ilmarinen applies the anti-bribery principles in all its business relations and operations. We also expect our business partners to commit to similar responsible practices. Ilmarinen carries out a thorough background check on its partners before commencing on any joint venture. We make sure that the subsidiaries and joint ventures in which the company has a legal right to influence operations adopt the anti-bribery principles and also otherwise comply with sound business practices (see Ilmarinen Code of Conduct). If we cannot directly influence the business practices of subsidiaries and joint ventures, we actively communicate the sound business practice principles to promote their compliance.
