How much is the TyEL contribution?

The TyEL contribution is based on the gross wages you pay to your employees.

In 2026, the basic TyEL contribution is 24.85% of wages for contract customers. When the company-specific administration cost is added, the TyEL contribution with us is up to 25.03% of wages.

For temporary employers (occasional payers without a permanent insurance contract), the TyEL contribution rate in 2026 is 25.85% of wages. The TyEL contribution for temporary employers is the same in all pension insurance companies.

TyEL contributions accrue only based on wages actually paid. If you do not pay wages, you do not pay TyEL contributions.

The contribution is shared between employer and employee

Employee’s share: You withhold the employee’s share directly from their pay. In 2026, the employee’s TyEL contribution is 7.30% of wages for employees of all ages.

Employer’s share: Your company pays the remaining share, which is on average about 17.10% of the total gross payroll in 2026.

How paying TyEL contributions works

1. Pay wages and report them to the Incomes Register

Use your payroll system or the Incomes Register’s online service. You do not need to report wages separately to Ilmarinen.

2. The information is transferred to us automatically

We receive information on paid wages directly from the Incomes Register. We calculate the insurance contribution based on this data.

3. Pay the invoice once a month

We send you an invoice. You can choose a due date that suits your company’s cash flow.

Frequently asked questions about TyEL contributions

  1. Yes, you can. In our online service, you can easily extend the due date of an invoice by up to two months from the original due date. A standard late-payment interest will be charged for the extended payment period.

How to add more time to an invoice:

    • Click “Insurance and payments”
    • Select “Apply for more time to pay an invoice”
    • Click “Add payment time” next to the invoice you want to adjust
    • You can now change the invoice due date

If you don’t see the option to add payment time for your latest invoice, it means the due date cannot be extended in the online service. In that case, our customer service team will be happy to help you by phone.

Please also call us if you need more than two months of additional payment time. We’ll discuss your situation together and find the best possible solution.

  2. If payroll is paused and you are not paying wages, we will not send you TyEL invoices. You only pay TyEL contributions for the periods when you report your employees’ TyEL wages to the Incomes Register.

You can check on our website whether the wage, fee or other compensation you pay is considered TyEL earnings.
