Rehabilitation allowance or rehabilitation increment during vocational rehabilitation

During vocational rehabilitation, you will receive either a rehabilitation allowance or a cash rehabilitation benefit and rehabilitation increment from us. You will receive them from us when your vocational rehabilitation, such as a work trial or studies, begins.

Use the rehabilitation calculator to estimate the amount of your rehabilitation allowance

Your rehabilitation allowance is 33 per cent larger than your disability pension would be. You can estimate the amount of your rehabilitation allowance in the MyPension service.

If you have already received a preliminary decision on vocational rehabilitation from us, you will find an estimate of your rehabilitation allowance in the decision. The decision is available in MyPension service under ‘My documents’.

Working while receiving the rehabilitation allowance

You can work while receiving the rehabilitation allowance. If your salary does not exceed your personal earnings limit, your rehabilitation allowance will not be reduced. If the salary exceeds your earnings limit, you may receive the benefit as a partial rehabilitation allowance. Read more about this below.

  1. The Act on Promoting a Return to Work allows you to earn EUR 986.30 per month while receiving a rehabilitation allowance (the Act is in force until 31 December 2025).

If your earnings exceed that amount, contact your rehabilitation specialist and check your personal earnings limit. You can find the contact details for your rehabilitation specialist in the preliminary vocational rehabilitation decision you have received. The preliminary decision is available in MyPension.

Your earnings limit is based on the regular average earnings used when calculating your rehabilitation allowance.

  2. The amount of a partial rehabilitation allowance is half of the full rehabilitation allowance. It is paid if your earnings during vocational rehabilitation exceed your earnings limit. Check your earnings limit with your rehabilitation specialist. You can find the contact details for your rehabilitation specialist in the preliminary vocational rehabilitation decision you have received. The preliminary decision is available in MyPension.

  3. In some situations, you may be eligible for rehabilitation assistance. You can apply for it if

    • you have received a preliminary decision on your right to vocational rehabilitation and
    • you do not receive a salary and are not entitled to sickness allowance, unemployment benefit or social assistance.

We can grant you a discretionary rehabilitation allowance for a maximum of three months when, for example, you are waiting for a work trial or your training to begin or you are preparing a plan.

You can apply for rehabilitation assistance with a free-form application. In your application, explain why and for how long you need the rehabilitation assistance. Submit the application in the ‘Send a message’ section of MyPension.
