How we communicate with our customers

Various phishing attempts have become more common, with scammers constantly developing new methods to scam the users of online services. Phishing refers to scammers’ attempts to deceive people into revealing, for example, their personal data, online banking codes or user IDs. Phishing is the general term for various online scams.

Where does Ilmarinen communicate with its customers?

We primarily use our own website at ilmarinen.fi for our communications. We are also present on social media: Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube and Instagram.

We contact our customers by mail, text message, email, phone and through our online service (logged in customers).

In addition, we send our customers invoices for TyEL and YEL insurance premiums. Our partner for TyEL insurance billing and payment is Lowell.

As a rule, you will receive the YEL invoice electronically either to your company's invoice processing system or to your online bank.

How does Ilmarinen not communicate with its customers?

Text messages sent by Ilmarinen never contain a link. Ilmarinen will also never send you messages asking for your user IDs or passwords.

If you receive from us an email with links, you can verify where the link takes you by placing the mouse on the link without clicking on it. Then you can see the whole address the link will take you to. Scammers are very skillful, and many pages created by them might look genuine at first sight.

How to spot a scam website

Some signs may help you to tell a scam website apart from Ilmarinen’s legitimate website. Is the domain name, for example, .com and not .fi? Are there spelling mistakes in the domain name or does it seem to be badly written?

How to identify a scam message or invoice

The sender's email address or the content of the message itself may be vague and poorly written. If you don't recognize the topic of the message, the sender, or you haven't purchased the invoiced service, it could be a scam attempt.

We never use links to take you directly to authentication or login

When Ilmarinen sends you an email prompting you to use our online service to take care of your matter, we never use links to take you directly to authentication or login. We always take you from our messages to Ilmarinen’s own public website whose login window you can safely use.

What can you do to improve your information security?

The most effective way to prevent your information from ending up in the wrong hands is through your own actions. For example, keep your computer’s and mobile phone’s operating systems up to date by installing the software updates proposed by the device. Learn how to identify the most common types of scam and have a healthy suspicion.

When you want to take care of your matters in Ilmarinen’s online services, always log in to them through Ilmarinen’s website. Rather than using a search engine, typing the address https://www.ilmarinen.fi/ in the address bar of the browser window is a more secure way to go to the login page of our services. In the address bar of our website, you can see ‘https’ in the beginning of the address, preceded by a padlock icon. They mean that the communications on the website are encrypted.

However, if you suspect that you have been the victim of an online scam or that the message you received was not sent by us even if it is signed by Ilmarinen, contact our customer service. We will find out together whether the message you received was sent by us or whether it is a potential phishing attack.
