What is a Medical Statement B and why is it needed?

A Medical Statement B is a report written by your doctor on your health and work ability. If you are applying for a disability pension or vocational rehabilitation, first obtain a Medical Statement B and attach it to your application. We cannot process your application without a Medical Statement B.

When do I need a Medical Statement B?

You will need a Medical Statement B to attach to your application when applying for one of the following:

  • vocational rehabilitation
  • disability pension or cash rehabilitation benefit
  • partial disability pension or partial cash rehabilitation benefit
  • extension of cash rehabilitation benefit and partial cash rehabilitation benefit
  • Years-of-service pension

Attach a Medical Statement B on your health that is no more than six months old to your application. Without the statement, we will not be able to process your application. Fill in the application in MyPension and add the Medical Statement B as an attachment at the end of the application.

You do not need to submit a new disability pension application when applying for an extension to the cash rehabilitation benefit or partial cash rehabilitation benefit. It is enough that you submit a new Medical Statement B to us in MyPension under Apply for a pension or rehabilitation - Apply for an extension.

Please only submit the official Medical Statement B. We cannot process your case based on photos or screenshots taken of MyKanta or texts from the Kanta archive. Before submitting your application, check that the attachment is legible and contains all pages.

Please note that Ilmarinen does not have access to MyKanta.

What if a doctor sends a Medical Statement B?

You should only fill in the application once the statement has arrived at us. You can track the arrival of the statement in MyPension under My Documents. We will wait for your Medical Statement B for two weeks if it arrives at a different time than your application. If we do not receive the statement within this time, your application will not be processed.

Can I send a Medical Statement B retroactively?

You should submit a Medical Statement B in connection with the application so that you can get a decision faster. However, if you send the statement at a different time, you can do so in MyPension under Send a message. We will wait for your Medical Statement B for two weeks if it arrives at a different time than your application. If we do not receive the statement within this time, your application will not be processed.

How do I check if my Medical Statement B has already arrived?

You can check MyPension to see if your statement has arrived with us. You can see it under "My Documents".
