When am I Contract employer?

You are a contract employer

  • when you have at least one employee under a permanent employment contract,
  • or when the wages or salaries paid to your employees over six months exceed EUR 8,676 (in 2020).

As a contract employer, you have the obligation to arrange pension cover for your employees by taking out TyEL insurance and paying the TyEL insurance contribution based on the wages you pay to the employee. The employer and the employee pay the insurance contribution together. As an employer, you collect the employee’s share of the contribution from the employee’s pay and remit the total contribution to us. You can also authorise an accounting firm to do this on your behalf. The contribution of a contract employer is 25.3% for employers with a payroll of less than EUR 2,086,500 in 2018.

If you already have TyEL insurance you can insure your temporary employee under the same insurance. All you or your accounting firm need to do is to report to Ilmarinen the wages paid to the employee.

Wages or salaries paid on or after 1 January 2019 shall be reported directly to the Incomes Register within five days of payment.
