If you are dissatisfied with your pension decision

Ilmarinen’s decisions are based on earnings-related pension legislation. If you cannot be granted a pension or rehabilitation, you will receive a negative decision from us. The decision states the grounds for refusal. If you are not satisfied with the decision you received from us, you can seek to have it changed.

You can appeal the decision

You can appeal the decision if it is negative or you are otherwise dissatisfied with it. Appeal the decision in writing within 30 days of receiving it.

The instructions for appeal are provided with the decision. Read them to find out what to do. The most important instructions are available on this page.

How to file an appeal

The appeal must be made in writing. Address the appeal to the Pension Appeal Board TELK, but send it to Ilmarinen. TELK is an appeal instance that functions independently of the pension providers and the Finnish Centre for Pensions. If we approve of all your demands, we will rectify our decision ourselves.

The petition of appeal must state:

  • the decision that is being appealed
  • which section of the decision you seek to have changed
  • what changes you require to be made
  • the grounds for appeal
  • your name, personal identity code, address and phone number
  • the deceased’s name and personal identity code if the appeal concerns a survivors’ pension

Also attach the accounts that you refer to. You can also provide additional documentation at a later date.

Appeal period

The appeal must be received by Ilmarinen at the latest on the thirtieth (30th) day of you having learned of the decision. You are considered to have learned of the decision within seven (7) days of its mailing date.

How to sign the appeal

The appeal must be signed by you or by the person drafting it. If you do not sign the appeal yourself, a power of attorney signed by you must be attached. If the appeal was drafted by someone else on your behalf, his or her name, profession and address must be reported. An appeal sent as an email or in the online service does not require a signature.

How to send the appeal

Send your appeal to us by logging in to the MyPension service on our website and using the ’Send a message’ feature.

Alternatively, you can send your appeal by post to the address Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company, P.O. Box 1, FI-00018 ILMARINEN, or by fax to the number +358 10 284 3445.

We also accept appeals by email at muutoksenhaku@ilmarinen.fi. Sending an appeal that contains confidential personal data by email is carried out at your own risk due to the potential information security risk. The maximum size of attachment files sent by email is 25 Mt.

Transfer of the appeal to the Pension Appeal Board

If we cannot rectify the decision according to your demands, we will transfer your appeal to TELK for deliberation and we will inform you thereof. TELK will issue its own decision, which you can seek to have changed by appealing to the Insurance Court. Read more about the transfer of the appeal (telk.fi).
